I have grown up in a small town of West Bengal, Baruipur; presently it becomes part of Kolkata. My schooling, both 10th & 12th has completed from there. Afterwards I have completed my Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Hons. followed by B.Tech in Chemical Technology from University of Calcutta.

After completion the technical studies in 1996, started searching for Job, but as a fresh candidate it was always challenge to crack the same. After putting continuous efforts, I got an opportunity to start my 1st job of my career. After getting job, I was so excited and felt very much relax, it was in mind that further study and education is over and got relief from study. Anyway, with lot of excitement, joined the job far away from home. Within short period of time have realized that, for further career growth, this university study and present knowledge is not enough, needs further learning and upgradation of knowledge.

During university studies, we are putting our maximum efforts in the direction to pass the exam with good grade. But now at service period, this is the real challenge to learn and develop skill. Here lot of learning opportunity are available surrounding us viz. lot of experiments, lot of practical, lot of technical & experienced people, lot of literature etc. etc. All types of learning resources are there, it is depended only our willingness that how much we want to learn from them.

Leaving aside the relaxation and satisfaction with job, again entered in the process of learning along with job. Referred books, visit library, discussed with experienced person, learned from skilled operating peoples etc. Gradually it becomes habit and after 5-6 years, have realized, it has really helped me to learn new things and I have gained my confidence on technical aspects. After that phase, when gradually increase my responsibility and started leading a group of peoples, have realized that to lead sizable group of people, management skill also needs to have along with technical knowledge.

Looking to the same I have joined MBA with specialization in Finance, in Maharaja Sayajirao University, along with Job. This is regular evening class, six days in a week, 6:15 – 9:45 PM daily, for 3 years. So, after returning from office, daily rush to the class at management faculty and returning home at 10:00 PM.  It was too hectic and huge pressure of study, viz. 12 exams in each semester, presentation and seminar of each paper etc. It was very tough time and many of our classmate has left within a year, found difficult to manage along with job. But we ~75% of our classmate could able to successfully complete study.

After completion of the MBA, I have realized that along with technical subject, I also have inclination to understand the finance in details, viz budget, management information system, costing etc. and also team development viz. mentoring, training and people development. That becomes continue learning of both technical as well as other commercial and management aspects.

Again after 15-20 years of professional life, after gradual career growth, got responsibility to a position where needs to lead a larger group of people. Where required good coordination in 360 degree. Then I had realized that along with technical and management skill, we need to developed soft skills. And soft skills are much more important among all other, to lead a large group of people in more effective and respective manners. I have again started learning and working on soft skill development and practices along with routine life. Started attending various leadership development programme, reading relevant books, going through TED talk video, coached by professional coach, personally joined courses “How to develop coaching skill”, etc. Here the main challenges are to demonstrate the learnings and continuous practices with conscious mind. That can be done during routine work at organization as well as society, family, friends everywhere, which will help to developed our habit followed by nature.

I thought, I would share my learning and realization which are earned from experience, among those young professionals, who want to be more effective and respective leader. And collectively helps to build positive culture surrounding us.
